decided we'd go ahead and watch it in 3-D since it was $8 instead of the normal $12.From the start of the movie to the finish, we were pleasantly surprised. No, it's no end of the summer Blockbuster movie, but it IS a good movie to end out the summer with after a dozen other great movies that aired in the Summer of 2013.Sure the jokes were corny, but they were enjoyable at the same time as they fit each situation perfectly. Yes, many words and items are changed to have SMURF at the beginning of each word such as Smurfy's Law or Smurfbook. Anyone expecting more from a cartoon based movie should realize that as we saw the same type of thing from Despicable Me 1 and 2 and from Iron Man 3.The things I liked most about this film that really made me like it so much was this: 1. It focused a lot on the importance of family and why caring and believing in each other is so powerful! They Smurfs and Patricks family never give up on each other.2. It kept me laughing and in suspense the entire time. What was Smurfette going to do? She has her own internal battles to fight; so is she going to overcome? What qualities has she learned from Papa Smurf? Will she be influenced or will Vexy influence her?Favorite quotes from the movie: "She didn't change because we wanted her to, she changed because we believed in her."- Papa Smurf "I chose to be your father not because I had to, but because I wanted to."-Victor Doyle When Victor discusses with Patrick on the importance of parenthood and being there for family. Quote from memory; might not be exact. All in all, while it is not highly action based, it's funny, it's got some good morals and it's a family film. So I suggest you dig deep, find your inner childhood if it's buried, bring it back to the surface and just enjoy the film with your family and friends. If both I and my teen brother enjoyed it in 3-D, you'll enjoy it in 2-D.

hey?" I loved all the Parisian scenes in this movie, and Gargamel in the Paris Opera House. Sweet Papa Smurf as portrayed by RIP Jonathan Winters. Kudos again. Naughties hilarious and pathetic. They were so happy to become blue. Blue's step-grandpa a nice person. A lesson here is that one who takes care of us is the real parent, witness Papa Smurf to Smurfette. Two parallel substitute parent stories going on at the same time.Whatsamatter no love relationships except for Patrick and Grace? Gargamel has no love interest. I don't remember any smurfs having special significant others, either. Maybe Azrael should get one. BTW, Azrael I always like. He is cunning and conniving, but has sort of the ears and voice of Lassie; er, he can understand Gargamel's ideas and answer in ways that even WE are savvy to Azrael's lingo. Anyway, I realize that platonic relationships are the way to go in a family-oriented film. I would love to see a group of baby Azraels, however. Azrael needs to find a female cga/robot/cat, or maybe Gargamel can conjure one up and even conduct an hilarious wedding ceremony. Oh, the possibilities of the baby Azraels chasing our beloved smurfs. That could make another great new movie, no? Yes, I know that Azrael and Gargamel always have to lose to the blue tribe, but a great conflict makes for a great film in any genre.Azrael reminds me of a robotic cga? Morris the Cat. I had a real Morris the Cat, whom I adored, RIP. He was a wonderful friend and pet, even though he lived on my dining room chair under the table and left plenty of his cat hair clinging to the fabric, lol. : xoxoxox my Morris.P.S. Luved all the small electronic devices in this movie, which at first I thought were IPads. Then, I saw Sony on a tablet. In the credits, I realized Sony was majorly behind this motion picture. Kudos and thanks to them. Thanks for bringing evil Gargamel into modern times, lol. I saw the tablets many times in this movie. I will guess, however, that when this film is seen 20 years from now that the tablets will be like yesterday's dinosaur/Flintstonian PCs.

Paris were amazing. Ignore the film critics, go there with your kids, and try and watch it through the eyes of a child and enjoy. Great in 3D. We thought it was better than the previous Smurfs movie.

Gargamel Hank Azaria is now a famous sorcerer living in Paris. His shows are always sold out and he has everything one always wanting more. He creates a couple of characters from a lump of clay like Smurfette called The Naughties Vexy voiced by Christina Ricci and Hackus J.B. Smoove , hoping to harness the magical Smurf essence so he can rule the world. He runs into a problem as his Naughties do not possess what he needs. Gargamel finds out that Smurfette Katy Perry is the only one who knows the secret of the essence, so, he sets out to have her kidnapped.In Smurf Village, Smurfette has the feeling of not quite fitting in with the rest of the Smurfs because she was created by Gargamel. Papa Smurf made her a true blue Smurf. Katy Perry said, "In a way, it' like she's becoming a teenager, asking all the same kind of questions we all go through when we come of age. She's really trying to figure out if she's a real Smurf." Gargamel kidnaps her on the eve of her birthday. With Smurfette missing, Papa Smurf Jonathan Winters, in his final performance along with a few other Smurfs, decides to take matters into his own hands. Smurfette forms a bond with the Naughties who are like her brother and sister. When Papa Smurf attempts to rescue her, it's a question if she wants to be or not. There is more here than meets the eye as a secret is revealed which could affect the entire Smurf community.This was a pleasant, funny, sweet, sometimes serious movie. I really enjoyed it. The Smurfs are adorable, the Naughties are cute, but the real surprise is Gargamel. Hank Azaria's work as the evil sorcerer was quite funny and very convincing. He brought forth a different kind of energy and it worked. Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, and Brendan Gleeson go through the motions but do not stand out.The movie works because it doesn't connect only with children, but for adults as well. Thematically, this film is more akin to Terrence Malick's "Days of Heaven" than to Gosnell's own "Beverly Hills Chihuahua." To its detriment, of course.Some of my disappointment is perhaps due to the surprise at the change of direction Gosnell has taken with our favorite little blue creatures. I feel critics will too easily dismiss the film as they were expecting something different, but unlike most film critics working today, I can put my expectations aside and judge the film objectively.Fans of the first will be glad to hear that acting powerhouse Katy Perry makes a return to voice Smurfette. She is simply sensational and steals scene after scene. Neil Patrick Harris gives a rather subtle performance and it's perhaps a bit too quiet and nuanced. There are new additions to this all-star cast, including the wildly inconsistent and unstable Brendan Gleeson. On his day, Gleeson makes for a phenomenal extra, but he is given too big a role. His performance is entirely too physical and he simply does not possess the acting talent to carry scenes emotionally.The plot is marginally improved over the first, as the kidnapping of Smurfette adds a dash of pathos that was sorely lacking in the first tale. The stakes are higher than ever and despite some blunders and missteps along the way, "The Smurfs 2" ultimately delivers. While many critics will undoubtedly be off-put by the abstract and heavily metaphorical direction the sequel has taken, it is clear that Gosnell has coherent and meaningful creative goals here that he successfully meets.Additionally, the film is meticulously shot by Phil Meheux and gorgeously scored by Heitor Pereira — your eyes and ears are guaranteed to get off sexually. I sure did, and the family next to me certainly seemed to enjoy themselves as well.

classic TV series, in a good way. All the fun is still there but this time you have great locations and many more emotion. The location in Paris couldn't be more wise. Such a nice visuals that you wish to be there in that moment. CGI are terrific, i can't say right now a flaw about this, maybe is there but i couldn't tell. Funny quotes are spreading across the movie then you don't have almost any boring time. This movie will not get the box office levels of Despicable Me 2, but i believe it deserves to be in that league. Hopefully this movie will be a welcome thrust.

never boring.Smurfs 2 I thought was going to be one of those, 'should have never made a sequel' films after seeing mocking video's on You Tube with children singing about how much they hated it! Personally I couldn't see that it could be better than the first film but I was very wrong. The 3D was stunning all the way through and at one point I forgot that I wasn't actually on the set! Again the storyline was strong, never dulled off and I found it one of few films that I could not pop to the toilet during or go for a smoke, there was no point where I thought I might not miss anything.The true credit though goes to Gargamel and his cat. There were point's that had me laughing out loud which as an adult would ordinarily be embarrassing at a kids film but then I noticed all the adults were laughing out loud too.And I'm sorry, if you don't have slightly moist eye's at the end then you have no soul!
